ABC viewers expecting a murder mystery or major true-crime investigation from 20/20 this Friday will instead see special programming marking 25 years since September 11.
The network has removed 20/20 from its normal Friday, September 11, 2026 schedule and will devote the 9:00–11:00 p.m. ET block to an encore of “9/11: United We Stand – 25 Years Later.”

No Regular 20/20 Episode This Friday
The change means 20/20 fans should not expect a new case, repeat investigation or two-hour true-crime episode this week.
ABC’s anniversary programming completely replaces the show’s normal two-hour Friday slot.
That makes September 11 one of the relatively rare Fridays when 20/20 is absent from ABC primetime altogether.
What Is 9/11: United We Stand – 25 Years Later?
The Michael Strahan-led documentary looks at how Americans turned to shared cultural experiences in the weeks and months after September 11, 2001.
The special examines the return of professional sports, Broadway performances, concerts and comedy, and how those events provided moments of unity and normality during a period of national grief.
Rather than concentrating exclusively on the attacks and their immediate aftermath, the documentary explores what happened afterward as people tried to resume everyday life.
Why ABC Is Airing It on September 11
Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
ABC News has scheduled anniversary coverage across its platforms, with United We Stand occupying the network’s normal 20/20 window.
The program’s subject also makes it particularly suited to the anniversary itself, focusing on memory, resilience and the cultural moments that became closely associated with the period following the attacks.
Is 20/20 Cancelled?
No.
The September 11 absence is a one-week programming preemption, not a cancellation or permanent schedule change.
20/20 remains part of ABC’s Friday lineup and is expected to return after the anniversary programming.
There is no episode of 20/20 on Friday, September 11, 2026. ABC will instead air “9/11: United We Stand – 25 Years Later” from 9:00–11:00 p.m. ET.
