Holly Marie Clouse spent almost her entire life without knowing that she was one of the most unusual missing-child cases in the United States. Known to investigators and the public as “Baby Holly,” she disappeared as an infant after her parents, Harold Dean Clouse Jr. and Tina Gail Linn Clouse, were murdered in Texas around the end of 1980.
Holly was not discovered until June 2022, when investigators found her alive in Oklahoma at the age of 42. By then, she had been adopted, married, raised five children and built a life without knowing that her biological relatives had spent decades wondering what became of her. As of 2026, Holly remains in Oklahoma and has spoken about her experience through interviews and her memoir while continuing to hope investigators will solve her parents’ murders.

Who Is Holly Marie Clouse?
Holly Marie Clouse was born on January 24, 1980, to Dean Clouse and Tina Linn Clouse. Dean and Tina were a young married couple from Florida who moved with Holly to Texas during the first year of her life.
The family settled in Lewisville, north of Dallas. Dean found work connected with the construction industry, while the couple continued sending letters and photographs to relatives in Florida.
Then the contact stopped.
Dean and Tina disappeared during the final months of 1980. Their relatives knew Holly had been with them, but no one could establish what had happened to the family.
The truth would remain hidden for more than 40 years.
Holly’s Parents Are Murdered
Dean and Tina were killed sometime around the period of their disappearance. Their bodies were found in a wooded area near Houston in January 1981.
Dean had been bound and beaten to death. Tina had been strangled. Holly was not found with them.
Because investigators could not identify the young couple, they had no way of knowing an infant daughter should have been with them.
Dean and Tina were buried as unidentified victims. Their families continued searching without realizing that their bodies had already been recovered.
For Holly, the situation was different. She had survived.
What Happened to Baby Holly?
Evidence uncovered decades later showed that Holly was separated from her biological parents when she was about 10 months old.
She was brought to a church in Yuma, Arizona, by women associated with a nomadic religious group. Holly’s adoptive father, pastor Phillip McGoldrick, later told investigators that women dressed in white arrived with the baby and asked for someone to care for her.
The women had Holly’s birth certificate and what was presented as a letter from Dean surrendering his parental rights.
McGoldrick and his family took Holly in. She was adopted and raised as their daughter.
Her adoptive family has never been considered responsible for Dean and Tina’s murders. Investigators have said the family that raised Holly did not know the circumstances surrounding the deaths of her biological parents.
Holly Grows Up Without Knowing She Is Missing
Holly grew up knowing that she had been adopted, but the explanation she received about her biological parents was incomplete.
She understood that they had been associated with an unconventional religious group and believed that they had chosen to surrender her. What she did not know was that Dean and Tina had been murdered.
She also had no idea that their relatives had spent decades searching for answers.
Holly later married and became the mother of five children. By the time investigators found her, she had been married for about two decades and was also a grandmother.
She was living an established life in Oklahoma. From her perspective, she had never been missing at all.
Dean and Tina Are Identified After Four Decades
The path to Holly began with her parents.
Dean and Tina’s remains were exhumed in 2011 so investigators could obtain DNA. In 2021, forensic genetic genealogists Misty Gillis and Allison Peacock used genetic matches and family-tree research to identify the unidentified victims.
The young man was Dean Clouse.
The young woman was Tina Linn Clouse.
Their identification gave the families an answer they had wanted for decades, but it produced another question.
When Dean’s relatives learned that his body had been found, they asked investigators about Holly.
Investigators did not know Dean and Tina had a daughter.
Suddenly, an unidentified-person case became a missing-child investigation.
The Search for Holly Begins More Than 40 Years Late
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children joined the effort to locate Holly. An age-progressed image was produced showing how she could look as a woman in her early 40s.
Investigators examined birth records and genealogy information. One of the most important discoveries came when they attempted to obtain Holly’s original birth certificate.
The record was sealed.
Investigators determined that the likely reason was an adoption.
That created hope that Holly had survived and was living somewhere under a different family identity.
The adoption records eventually pointed investigators toward the Arizona church where Holly had been taken as an infant.
From there, they were able to establish the identity of the adult woman who had once been Baby Holly.
Holly Is Found Alive in Oklahoma
Investigators located Holly on June 7, 2022, when she was 42 years old.
The date carried an emotional connection to the case. June 7 was also her biological father Dean’s birthday.
Holly was living in Oklahoma with her family. Investigators found that she had survived the disappearance, been adopted and lived for four decades without knowing that she was connected to an unsolved double murder.
ABC News reported that she was a married mother of five when investigators found her.
Her discovery ended one of the central mysteries surrounding Dean and Tina’s case.
It also changed Holly’s understanding of her own life.
Detectives Approach Holly at Work
Holly was working at a restaurant in Cushing, Oklahoma, when two investigators arrived to speak with her.
Detective Craig Holleman of the Lewisville Police Department and Mindy Montford of the Texas Attorney General’s Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit sat down with her and began asking about her adoption.
Holly initially thought the visit might involve one of her children.
Instead, she was told that Dean and Tina had been murdered.
Investigators showed Holly a photograph of herself as a baby with her biological parents.
It was the first time she had seen their faces.
The moment became central to Holly’s later account of discovering who she was. She had lived 42 years knowing she was adopted but had never understood that her biological parents had been homicide victims.
Holly Learns She Has Another Family
The investigators had another piece of information for Holly.
Her biological relatives were alive and had been searching for her.
Dean and Tina came from large families in Florida. Those relatives had spent decades wondering what happened not only to the couple but also to their baby.
Holly met some of them through a video call on the same day investigators told her the truth.
She later traveled to Florida for an in-person reunion. ABC reported that Holly described feeling both joy over finding her biological relatives and sadness over the decades they had spent without answers.
The reunion allowed Holly to learn about Dean and Tina through the people who had known them.
Holly Begins Reconstructing Her Parents’ Lives
Holly had no memories of Dean and Tina because she was less than a year old when they died.
After being found, she began speaking with their relatives and gathering photographs, letters and family memories.
Those conversations allowed her to understand them as parents rather than as two names connected with an unsolved murder.
For decades, Holly had carried questions about why her biological parents had given her away. Learning that they had been killed created a different set of possibilities.
She began questioning whether Dean and Tina had surrendered her voluntarily, whether they had been pressured to do so or whether the people who took Holly had acted after her parents were already in danger.
Those questions remain unresolved.
Holly Visits the Place Where Her Parents Were Found
Holly later traveled to Texas to visit the wooded area near Wallisville Road where Dean and Tina’s bodies had been recovered.
She went with her husband, Troy.
The area had changed since 1981, and Holly could not establish the precise location where her parents had been found. She nevertheless wanted to stand near the place connected with their deaths.
She also visited the cemetery where Dean and Tina had been buried when they were still unidentified.
Holly wrote about these experiences in her memoir, describing the visits as part of the process of understanding a history that had been hidden from her.
The trip also reinforced the central fact that still shapes the case: investigators know what happened to Holly, but they do not know who killed her parents.
Holly Tells Her Story to David Muir
Holly gave her first major television interview to David Muir for ABC’s 20/20 in 2023.
She discussed the day detectives found her, learning that her biological parents had been murdered and meeting relatives who had known about her since infancy.
Holly said the discovery left her in shock. She had suddenly learned that people she did not know had spent decades hoping to find her.
The interview also explored the unresolved questions surrounding the religious group associated with her disappearance.
Investigators connected the women who brought Holly to the Arizona church with a nomadic group known as the Christ Family. People connected with the same movement were also associated with returning Dean’s car to his family in Florida.
No member has been charged with murdering Dean or Tina.
Holly Writes Finding Baby Holly
Holly also told her story in the memoir Finding Baby Holly: Lost to a Cult, Surviving My Parents’ Murders, and Saved by Prayer.
The book recounts her adoption, her childhood, the day investigators found her and her efforts to understand what happened to Dean and Tina.
A major purpose of the memoir was to draw renewed attention to the murder investigation.
Holly has said she hopes publicity surrounding her story could reach someone who has information about what happened in 1980.
Her account also emphasizes the importance of genealogy and DNA in solving long-term unidentified-person cases.
Without the identification of Dean and Tina, investigators might never have known that Holly existed as a missing child.
Where Is Holly Marie Clouse Now?
As of 2026, Holly Marie Clouse, also known publicly as Holly Miller, is living in Oklahoma. Recent reporting continues to describe her as a wife and mother of five who built her adult life there.
She has maintained connections with both the family that raised her and the biological relatives she discovered after 2022.
Her story is no longer centered on finding Baby Holly. That mystery has been solved.
Her focus has shifted toward understanding what happened to Dean and Tina and supporting efforts that use genealogy to give unidentified victims their names back.
Holly’s Relationship With Her Adoptive Family
The discovery of Holly’s biological identity did not erase the family relationships she had developed throughout her life.
Holly has spoken with affection about the father who raised her. Phillip McGoldrick cooperated with investigators and provided information about how Holly came to the church in Arizona.
His account became one of the strongest links between Holly’s adoption and the religious group investigators were examining.
For Holly, finding her biological family meant expanding her understanding of family rather than replacing the people who had raised her.
That distinction has been important in her public comments. Her childhood family and her newly discovered biological relatives represent different parts of the same life.
Holly Is Now a Mother and Grandmother
One of the striking elements of Holly’s discovery was how much life had passed while she remained listed as a missing child.
By 2022, the baby investigators were trying to locate had become a mother herself.
Holly and her husband had five children. Reports have also described her as having grandchildren.
Those relationships added another generation to a biological family that had spent more than four decades without knowing whether Holly had survived.
When Holly reconnected with Dean and Tina’s relatives, they were not only meeting the missing baby.
They were meeting the adult she had become and learning about the family she had created.
Holly Continues Seeking Answers About Dean and Tina
Holly’s disappearance has been solved, but the case surrounding her remains open.
No one has been charged with murdering Dean and Tina.
The Harris County homicide investigation and the work of the Texas Attorney General’s Cold Case and Missing Persons Unit continue to focus on identifying the person or people responsible. A case listing updated in May 2026 still describes Tina’s death as an unsolved homicide.
Holly has questioned whether her parents’ involvement with the Christ Family had something to do with their deaths.
That theory has not been proven.
Investigators have said the case remains solvable, but they have not announced a suspect or prosecution.
The Questions Holly Still Wants Answered
Holly now knows who her parents were and knows that they were murdered.
What she does not know is why.
Investigators have not established who took Dean and Tina from Lewisville to the Houston area, whether they were killed where their bodies were found or transported there, or who made the decision to separate Holly from them.
There is also no confirmed explanation for how people connected with the religious group came to possess both Holly and Dean’s vehicle.
The purported letter surrendering Dean’s parental rights presents another question. Its authenticity and the circumstances under which it was created have never produced a public explanation of what happened to the family.
For Holly, solving those questions would mean learning the final part of a story she did not know existed until she was 42.
Baby Holly Is No Longer Missing
Holly Marie Clouse’s story is unusual because the person at the center of the missing-child case never knew that she was missing.
She had a childhood, married, became a mother and built a life in Oklahoma while two generations of her biological family remained separated from her.
Forensic genealogy changed that in 2022.
The science that first restored Dean and Tina’s names eventually led investigators to their daughter. Holly gained a biological family and learned the truth about the parents she had wondered about throughout her life.
As of 2026, Holly is alive, living in Oklahoma and continuing her life with her family while advocating for answers in her parents’ case.
Baby Holly was found.
The final chapter, identifying who murdered Dean and Tina Clouse, has yet to be written.
